Prof. Olga Troyanskaya wins Overton Prize
The International Society for Computational Biology has awarded the 2011 Overton Prize to Prof. Olga Troyanskaya of Princeton's Department of Computer Science. The annual prize is awarded for outstanding accomplishment to a scientist in the early to mid stage of his or her career who has made a significant contribution to the field of computational biology.

Martin Suchara wins Best Student Paper
Martin Suchara has won the Best Student Paper Award at the 2011 SIGMETRICS conference. His paper on "Network architecture for joint failure recovery and traffic engineering" was co-authored with Dahai Xu, Robert Doverspike, and David Johnson from AT&T Labs--Research and Jennifer Rexford from Princeton.

Prof. Perry Cook plays and studies 3000 year old conch trumpets
In 2001 archaeologists in Peru found 20 conch shell trumpets in an ancient ceremonial center. Researchers used software to characterize the acoustic properties of each shell, reconstruct the shell's interior, and study how the shape of the stone ceremonial chamber where they were found would alter the sound.
