Jennifer Rexford discusses the Facebook outage

On October 4th shortly before noon Eastern Time, billions of users were unable to access Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp while the social media giant scrambled to restore services. It was more than five hours before services began to return. 

Princeton University Computer Science Chair Jennifer Rexford, whose research has improved the efficiency of how the internet routes traffic, explains the mechanics of what went wrong on this platform, leading to widespread outages.
