The Department of Computer Science honored its 196 graduating seniors in a Class Day ceremony on Monday, May 26, conferring honors and awards for outstanding academic achievement.
The department's top honor for academic excellence, the Phillip Goldman '86 Senior Prize in Computer Science, was awarded to Arya Maheshwari.
Maheshwari also won the Accenture Prize, which recognizes academic excellence in computer science through the end of junior year.
Of the 196 graduates, 121 earned a bachelor of engineering degree and 75 earned a bachelor of arts degree. Of all the graduates, 23 earned the University's academic honors; 44 more earned high honors; and 25 students earned highest honors.
Six students won awards for Outstanding Computer Science Senior Thesis: Roma Bhattacharjee, Brandon Cheng, Shlomo Fortgang, Arya Maheshwari, Alexis Wu and James Zhang. Eight students won for Outstanding Computer Science Independent Work: Aminah Aliu, George Chiriac, Javier Linero-Quintana, Ijay Narang, Kaan Odabas, Aidan Phillips, Zachary Siegel, Liu Yang.
167 of the graduates were inducted into an honor society: Sigma Xi, for distinguished scientific research or Tau Beta Pi, recognizing outstanding engineering achievements. Nine students won the Sigma Xi Book Award, in recognition of their outstanding research.
Princeton University recognized Ben Wachspress with the W. Sanderson Detwiler 1903 Prize, given to a senior who, in the judgment of the student’s classmates, has done the most for the class.
The School of Engineering and Applied Science recognized James Zhang, with the Calvin Dodd McCracken Senior Thesis/Project Award, recognizing the senior thesis or project that is most distinctive for its inventiveness and technical accomplishment.
