Workshop: TCS Early Career Mentoring

About

The goal of this workshop, co-located with IEEE Foundations of Computer Science (FOCS 2019) is to provide students and postdocs information surrounding the job market (both academic and industrial) for research positions in Theoretical Computer Science.

The workshop will take place on Saturday, November 9th.

There will be three themes: a panel of senior researchers will help "demystify" the job market, and provide general advice from a behind-the-scenes perspective. A panel of junior researchers will share their recent experience on the job market, focusing on their personal stories and what worked/didn't work for them. Finally, two recent faculty hires will present a portion of their job talk, and discuss the process of creating it.

Please see the schedule here, which also contains a link to submit questions you would like to see discussed by the panelists.

Organizers: Yael Kalai (Microsoft Research), Aviad Rubinstein (Stanford), Matt Weinberg (Princeton).
