(#) About This Course
Welcome to the spring 2026 offering of *COS 417: Operating Systems*! This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practice of operating systems. We will cover topics such as processes, virtualization, memory management, concurrency, and I/O. The course will emphasize both theoretical foundations and practical implementation.
This course has a prerequisite of COS 217, while COS 316, COS 333, COS 318, 375, and/or programming maturity is recommended. Experience with the C programming language is a must. Please contact the faculty instructors if you wish to take the course but do not currently meet these requirements.

Lectures
Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:55 pm - 4:15 pm (EDT) in Computer Science 105.
Precepts
Students are required to register for a single precept section that meets once a week. Precepts have the following schedule:
- P05 - led by Kevin Alarcón Negy Thursdays, 10:40 am - 11:30 pm in Julis Romo A02.
- P06 - led by Amelia Dobis Thursdays, 1:20 pm - 2:10 pm in Computer Science 302.
- P04 - led by Phyllis Wang Fridays, 1:20 pm - 2:10 pm in Friend Center 009.
