Sayash Kapoor is an incoming assistant professor at the UC Berkeley School of Information, starting in July 2027. He completed his computer science Ph.D. requirements at Princeton University in August 2026, where he was a Porter Ogden Jacobus Fellow, Princeton University's highest honor for a graduate student. Previously, he was a senior fellow at Mozilla and a Laurance S. Rockefeller Graduate Prize Fellow at Princeton University. His work has been published in leading scientific journals such as Science and Nature Human Behaviour, as well as conferences such as ICLR, NeurIPS, and ICML. He co-authored AI Snake Oil with Arvind Narayanan, named one of Nature's 10 best books of 2024. He is writing his next book with Narayanan on AI as Normal Technology before joining Berkeley. His newsletter is read by over 85,000 AI enthusiasts, researchers, policymakers, and journalists. He has written for mainstream outlets including The Wall Street Journal and WIRED, and his work has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, and many other outlets. Kapoor has been recognized with various awards, including a best paper award at ACM FAccT, an impact recognition award at ACM CSCW, a Privacy Papers for Policymakers award, and inclusion in TIME's inaugural list of the 100 most influential people in AI. He is a 2026 Siebel Scholar and, with Narayanan, an IP3 Information Policy Award honoree (October 2026).
