Written Exercise 1: Texture Synthesis

Due on Tues, Sep 28 at 11:59PM

In one page or less, please discuss the trade-offs of synethesizing textures pixel-by-pixel (as in [efros99]) versus patch-by-patch (as in [efros01]). How are these trade-offs different when coherence [ashikhmin01] and multi-resolution strategies [wei00] are included in the pixel-by-pixel synthesis (as in [hertzmann01]). Please consider both the theoretical (how the method samples from a statistical distribution) and practical (running time, storage, quality, etc.) aspects of the methods in your discussion.
