Preface

The author developed the sniffle system in the summer of 1995 under the supervision of Professor Michael Littman of Princeton University's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Although parts of this report necessarily deal with the details of Dr. Littman's lab and the Princeton University computing climate, most of what follows will be of very general interest.

This paper is intended to serve many purposes for several distinct audiences. It provides a detailed introduction to the sniffle project and describes its place in the field of Internet remote control. It also contains a guide for end-users of snifflea detailed explanation of how it works for anyone interested in modifying or extending it, and ideas for improving the system. Complete listings of all of the Visual Basic code at the core of sniffle as well as the author's project log are provided in appendices.
