I'm a PhD student in computer science at Princeton University. I'm interested in technology, public policy, and the intersection of the two. My advisor is Ed Felten. Felten is the director of Princeton's recently-launched Center for IT Policy. My CITP colleagues include Alex Halderman, Harlan Yu, Ari Feldman, Joe Calandrino, Bill Zeller, and Will Clarkson. I was honored to receive a Humane Studies Fellowship in 2008.
I have a blog, called "Bottom-Up." I write a fair amount about technology policy, but I also write about other things that catch my interest.
I'm also a freelance writer. Among the topics I've written about are copyright law, patents, electronic surveillance, network neutrality, and electronic voting. I've write for a number of technology-focused websites, notably Techdirt and Ars Technica.
I'm proud to be an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute. You can see my work for Cato here. I also contribute occasionally to Cato's blog.
I live in Philadelphia with my wife, Amanda, and our two cats Maxwell and Tesla. I was born and raised in Minnesota, graduating from Henry Sibley High School in 1998. (I created a website for my high school class that has been deprecated in favor of a Facebook group.) I graduated from the University of Minnesota, and then lived in Washington DC, St. Louis, and Princeton. In 2009, I got married and moved to Philadelphia so Amanda could start her residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Starting in the fall of 2009 I expect to commute weekly to Princeton.
I have some older photos here, and Amanda's photos are here. You can learn about our wedding here and see pictures from our honeymoon in Buenos Aires here.
When not goofing off on the Internet, I enjoy a variety of hobbies, including rock climbing, ballroom dancing, and soccer. I can be found on Facebook and Twitter. You can email me at leex1008 (at) umn.edu.
