I'm a PhD student in computer science at Princeton University. I'm interested in technology, public policy, and the intersection of the two. My advisor is Ed Felten. Felten is the director of Princeton's recently-launched Center for IT Policy. My CITP colleagues include David Robinson, Alex Halderman, Shirley Gaw, Harlan Yu, Ari Feldman, Joe Calandrino, Bill Zeller, Will Clarkson, and Grayson Barber. I contribute to CITP's blog, Freedom to Tinker.
I'm also a freelance writer. Among the topics I've written about are copyright law, patents, electronic surveillance, network neutrality, and electronic voting. I contribute to a number of technology-focused websites, notably the Technology Liberation Front, Techdirt, and Ars Technica. My thoughts on non-technology topics can be found at the Angry Blog.
I'm proud to be an adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute. You can see my work for Cato here. I also contribute occasionally to Cato's blog.
I was born and raised in Minnesota, graduating from Henry Sibley High School in 1998. (I created a website for my high school class that has been deprecated in favor of a Facebook group.) I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2002. I lived in Washington, DC for two years where I met Amanda. When she started medical school at Wash U in 2005, I followed her to St. Louis. We got engaged in October 2007 and will be married in May 2009.
When not goofing off on the Internet, I enjoy a variety of hobbies, including rock climbing, ballroom dancing, and soccer. I can be found on Facebook and Twitter. Photos are here and here. You can email me at leex1008 (at) umn.edu.
