Contextual visualization of regions of interest in volumetric data
This is ongoing work aimed at visualization of segmented regions in volumetric data using hybrid and importance-driven rendering techniques.
Non-photorealistic shading models for volumetric data
This project uses techniques developed in topographic relief map generation to shade surfaces with locally adjusted lights, exposing details from a wide range of frequencies and orientations in a single detailed image. The technique was originally conceived for polygonal surface meshes, and was extended to isosurfaces in a volume renderer.
This work is described in the paper “Exaggerated Shading for Depicting Shape and Detail.”
Contour and suggestive contour extraction from volumetric data
The goal of this project is to efficiently generate high-quality line drawings from isosurfaces in volume data. By employing a software-based approach with optimizations adapted from polygonal line drawing algorithms, we are able to generate line drawings of relatively large volumes from arbitrary viewpoints at interactive framerates.
This work is described in the paper “Line Drawings from Volume Data.”
