IW Dates & Deadlines

Fall 08/Spring 09

 

All deadlines are firm.  If you miss any deadlines (including deadlines to sign up for presentation slots) your final grade will be penalized.

Any forms you need can be obtained from Donna O'Leary (CS 410) if you cannot print them off the web.  Most forms must be signed by your advisor before they are turned.  The deadlines are for turning in the forms.  It is your responsibility to meet with your advisor prior to every deadline to have them read the appropriate reports, help you with presentations and written work, and/or sign the appropriate forms.  Excuses such as "my advisor was out of town last week" will not be met with mercy.  Be organized and plan ahead.  Use fax machines, scanners and modern technology such as email to coordinate with your advisor.

Thesis and 2-semester Independent Work Dates

Sept 11 Classes begin.  Start looking for a project.  Feel free to email and meet with potential advisers to discuss project ideas.  The earlier you find an adviser and get started on your research, the better.

Sept 12, 12-1pm, 2008 Welcome lunch & meeting in CS 105.  Attendance is mandatory.
Sept 15, 12-1:30pm Lunch with faculty in CS tea room (2nd floor, CS building). 

Come and discuss IW project possibilities with faculty.

Sept 22-26

(Deadline is 4:30pm Friday)

Sign up for IW proposal presentations outside Donna O'Leary's office (CS 410)
Sept 26, 4:30pm IW Signup Deadline.  Hard copies of your IW signup forms are due, signed by your faculty advisor, in Donna's office (COS 410).
Oct 6-10 Proposal presentations given this week.

Slides must be emailed to dpw@cs.princeton.edu prior to the talk with the subject "FALL 2008 Proposal Slides <Your Name>" (with your name in place of <Your Name>).  You will get an acknowledgement email when you submit correctly.

Students are expected to attend for an entire 1-hour block (starting and ending on the hour) and give feedback to other students in that time period. 

Location TBA.  Make sure it is convenient for your advisor to attend.

Nov 7, 4:30pm Fall Semester Checkpoint Form, signed by your advisor due to Donna O'Leary (Donna's office, CS 410)
Feb 6, 2009, 4:30pm February Paper & Form, signed by your advisor, due to Donna O'Leary (Donna's office, CS 210)
Feb 6, 2009, 4:30pm Second Reader Form Due, signed by your second reader due to Donna O'Leary (Donna's office, CS 210)
March 27, 4:30pm Final Thesis Outline Due, signed by advisor, due to Donna O'Leary (Donna's office, CS 210)
April 17, 4:30pm Final Report Due, hard copy due to Donna O'Leary (Donna's office, CS 210).  Note:  There should be no statement regarding access and copying.  There should be a statement indicating that the thesis is your own work in accordance with University regulations.
April 27-April 30 Final Presentations this week.  Presentations will be given during group lunches (systems, graphics, ai, etc.)
