It was our last day on the road and we woke up in Pittsburgh and as one does in such circumstances, we went to see the wall at Forbes Field
and the spot where the home run was hit
before saluting Barney Dreyfuss
and heading to the International Academy of Jazz Hall of Fame
where we saw instruments
and clothes (these of Jimmy Owens)
and instrument parts (Dizzy Gillespie and Donald Byrd) of the greats
while seeing the voting committee
Count Basie's hat
and Clark Terry's B flat silver trumpet
among other equipment
including this flute with its donor
before we entered the hall
and welcomed Clark Terry, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald,
Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington,
J.J. Johnson, Gil Evans and Stephanie Grappelli,
Art Tatum, Art Blakey and Billie Holliday,
Oscar Peterson, Count Basie (with his hat) and Mary Lou Williams,
Charlie Parker, Benny Carter and Thelonious Monk,
Dexter Gordon, Erroll Garner and Earl Powell,
Leon Beiderbecke, Kenny Clarke and Bill Evans,
Jimmy Blanton and Miles Davis,
Charles Mingus, Coleman Hawkins and Sarah Vaughn,
Stan Getzm John Coltrane and Max Roach,
Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Christian and Lester Young,
Sonny Rollins, Roy Eldridge and Billy Strayhorn,
and Earl Hines and Lionel Hampton.
Afterwards, we recorded some Pitt scenes
as we made our way past Five Guys back to the car for the journey onward
with our next stop being Midway where we read about the Lincoln Highway
and the Turnpike
and noted the pretty flowers.
Our next (and last) hall of fame sponsored by York Barbell
with this status
and the revolving man
was the USA Weightlifting Hall of Fame
where Bob Hoffman greeted us
along with these barbells
and weights
not to be touched.
and as we made our way past the weights
we began to hear the story of Bob Hoffman, the local hero
with this sentiment that I wholly endorse though I usually photograph them for later viewing.
And so the story of Bob Hoffman unfolded
along with weightlifting lore present
and past

We learned about The World's Strongest Man contests
and saw old barbells

ring weights
and spherical kettlebells
along with ancient heroes
and cyr dumbbells
and the story of Hermann Gomer
and John Grunn Marx
with a pause for their mobile
before we turned to Geroge Hackenschmidt
and saw different forms of weights
and exercisers
along with trophies
and letters from Ronald Reagan
and Richard Nixon.
We learned about the United States Weightlifting Federation
and saw lifters of the decade in photo
and sculpture
along with weightlifter's shoes
and equipment
before turning to the next statue
tales of bodybuilding
women in body building
and Mr. America's
and Ms. America's from 1980 forward
This led us to the hall of fame
with a special tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger
and Steve Reeves who went on to different careers.
We saw Outstanding World Champions
and then turned to Power Lifting
and saw milestone accomplishments
in powerlifting
before turning to World and Olympic champions
and then saw the membership in the IWF Masters Weightlifting Hall of Fame (various halls here)
the USWF National Master
and finally the US Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame which is where we thought we were.
which gave us an opportunity to record the theme of our trip
and the locale we were at
before saluting key members including Bill Kazmaier,
Ruthie Shafer,
Larry Pacifico,
Vince Amello,
Doyle Kenady and Fred Hatfield,
John Gamble,
Rickey Dale Grain and Hugh Cassidy,
Mark Cameron, Mark Chaillet and Malcolm Richards,
Lamar Gant and Vicki Steenrod and
Nance Avigliano and Gene Rychlak.
On our way out, Ben tried his hand at membership
and we saluted Bob Hoffman on his life's work
while recording the York method. A successful end to a wonderful trip.
