Abstract:

In this note we briefly summarize the distributed computing research we performed in the year 1986. In general terms, our emphasis was on studying and implementing mechanisms for efficient and reliable computing and data management. Our work can be roughly divided into seven categories: the implementation of a highly reliable database system, the implementation of a high availability database system, dynamic vote reassignment, a mechanism for dealing with long-lived transactions, real time database systems, caching in information systems, and load balancing. Due to space limitations, we concentrate on describing our own work and we do not survey the work of other researchers in the field. For survey information and references, we refer readers to some of our reports.
