Advances in Climate and Weather Prediction using High-Performance Computing

Brian Gross, Ph.D.

Deputy Director, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL)

For the past 80 years, climate and weather research, and it's implementation into operational forecasts and projections, have relied on High Performance Computation (HPC). This talk will review how HPC has promoted advances in numerical weather and climate prediction in the past, particularly regarding the problem of climate change, and will look toward anticipated advances in the science afforded by future developments in HPC.
