Computer Science 497 Senior Independent Work ***BSE Candidates Only*** Sanjeev Arora AB Candidates, please see SRT - Senior Research Thesis home page

Fall 1997

Students enrolled for independent work this semester must attend occasional class meetings where they will be advised about how to do independent work, how to prepare an oral presentation, how to write the final report, etc.
The first meeting in Fall 1997 is on Tuesday, September 16 at 4:30 pm in the small auditorium. Attendance is compulsory.

Schedule

• Tuesday, September 16 at 4:30 pm in the small auditorium. 
  Getting-started meeting. (Attendance is compulsory.)
• Friday, September 26. 
  Drop off completed form at the CS Undergraduate Office (Rm 410) containing the name of your advisor and title of your project.
• December 1, 2 or 3 
  Make a 12-minute presentation on results of your project. This applies only if you are doing a 1-semester project. If you are doing a 2-semester project you have to make a presentation on Nov 24, between 4 and 6:30pm in Room 103. See SRT - Senior Research Thesis home page
  SIGN UP FOR A SLOT OUTSIDE ROOM 307

  Try to include the following in your presentation.

  a 2-3 line "sound-bite" on what your project is
  Details on your project
  Prior research in this area and its relevance to your project (if any)
  What you have already achieved and what else you hope to achieve by January 5.
  What you had hoped to achieve at the start of the semester but didn't pan out.
  Use of transparencies is encouraged. You can print transparencies on certain printers in the department; for instructions see here. If you prepare transparencies with a PC or a MAC, you will need to save them as postscript files and then print the postscript files.

  Drop off a final report with your advisor and also with Mrs. McDermott.
