Course Summary

Digital technology brings new threats to personal privacy, making it ever cheaper to gather, store, transmit, and analyze personal information. Privacy is a complex issue in which technology intertwines with ethical, legal, economic, and national security questions.

This seminar will examine the digital privacy issue in context. Readings and disscussion will focus on three main areas: (1) ethical and legal foundations of privacy, (2) advanced privacy technologies, and (3) public policy issues involving privacy.
