Course Summary

The focus of this graduate seminar will be on identifying research issues and future directions in managing and exploring large datasets.  In the first part of the course, students in this course will be reading and discussing selected papers.  Topics being considered in this course  include but not limited to distributed and parallel storage systems,  data protection and disaster recovery, information extraction and explorations, management of large datasets, data visualization techniques, collaborative data exploration environments, and management of personal data.  In the second part of the course, each student will work on a small research project.  Students can work either individually or in teams.  Several faculty members and outside researchers will be invited to give talks at the seminar.
