Aphasia Project: Verb Study - Call for Help

The Princeton Aphasia project needs your help! We need you to send us your pictures (via Flickr).

Why Pictures?

Aphasia is a debilitating condition that affects over a million people in North America alone. It robs people of their ability to understand and to use language, but individuals with aphasia almost always can still see and understand pictures. We want to help make software for people with aphasia easy to make and use, and we're currently investigating how people can use images to help communicate.

Why do you need my pictures?

Believe it or not, there are not many pictures of actions (feel free to prove us wrong if you know of big collections, though!). Even if you use Google images, which has a picture of just about anything you can think of, is at a loss if you want a picture of something as simple as "give."

So we need your help. We're starting with a simple list of fifty verbs that we want to find pictures for.

What do I do?

To submit your images:
  1. register in flickr
  2. join our "Princeton Action Photos" group
  3. upload the photos that you think can represent the verbs given in the first discussion topic
  4. put down discription, and tag the verb
  5. click on the icon "Send to Group" above the photo once it's uploaded

What's in it for me?

We will make a list of all the usernames who have submitted usable pictures to the group and then randomly select one username to receive a free iPod.

Are there any restrictions?

You can only upload your own pictures (i.e. you can't submit copyrighted pictures). Only submit pictures you'd be okay with your grandmother seeing, as more than likely somebody's grandma is going to end up seeing them. Thanks for helping us help people with aphasia!
