FPO Checklist

Revised September 2011

Reminders:

  1. See Melissa Lawson as soon as you have a target FPO date in mind.
  2. Date on title page is month/year of graduation, not FPO date.
  3. Remember to acknowledge your funding in your thesis. See advisor for official grant numbers.
  4. Read the formatting and binding guidelines carefully. See this page for formal requirements.

All paperwork for the FPO Request is due at the Graduate School two weeks before your requested FPO date. It is strongly recommended that you begin the online process one week earlier to make sure that all materials are available for submission on time.

You will submit all documents through SCORE using the online Advanced Degree Application form. Log into SCORE. Go to Student Center>Reenrollment>Advanced Degree Application. Complete the required personal information and attach the following documents as pdf:

  1. Title Page of Thesis
  2. Abstract (strongly recommended not to exceed 350 words)
  3. Two Reader's Reports (Click here for the form--MUST BE TYPED) Note: One reader must be from the CS Department. The second reader may be a professor in another department at Princeton, and no approval is required. An outside professor or member of industry must be preapproved. Submit c.v. to Melissa Lawson.
  4. Advisor's Report (Click here for the form--MUST BE TYPED)
  5. Confirm date and time with your committee. Advisor and nonreaders must attend; readers are welcome but not required.
  6. Hit "submit" which moves the form to the department for approval, and notify Melissa by Noon on the day two weeks before FPO.

    You also:
  7. Give one final unbound copy to Melissa for display. It may be two sided to save paper

    I will:
  8. Access, complete, and submit the Advanced Deegree Application for the Department.
  9. Post the FPO Announcement once the Graduate School has approved.

After your FPO:

  1. Complete the online submission of your dissertation on the ProQuest UMI ETD Administrator website. This step will take roughly 20-25 minutes to complete. You are required to upload a double spaced PDF of your dissertation, choose publishing options (see next paragraph), enter subject categories and keywords, and make payment if you have chosen options requiring additional fees.

Note: We recommend the traditional publishing option (free). The Department will make your dissertation a Technical Report. In addition it will also be available for free on the web through Princeton's digital repository, DataSpace. Do you need to copyright? Usually not. You have already asserted your rights by adding the copyright page in your dissertation. Registration gives you additional legal protection.

  2. Print out the confirmation email that you will receive when your submission is complete. Bring it to Melissa along with the following:

    1. Two bound copies of your dissertation with last name and year on top third of spine. They must be single sided and may be single spaced. You may choose to make additional copies for yourself, your advisor, readers, etc. These can be double sided.
    2. Check or Money Order payable to "Princeton University Library" for $15 or $15 cash.
    3. Hard copies of the Certification of Completion for the Survey of Earned Doctorates and the Exit Questionnaire. Links to both are found on the Advanced Degree Application page in SCORE.
    4. End of Enrollment form (click here for the form)
    5. Email pdf version of thesis to Melissa along with plain-text abstract for processing as Technical Report.

  3. Melissa will submit documents to Mudd for signature and then submit to the Graduate School.
