Anne McCaffrey has an inspiring view of human nature. In all the
books of hers that I've read, humans use their minds persistently and
creatively to overcome any obstacles in their way. And not only can
humans cope with anything, they manage to achieve happiness in an
astounding number of cases. Unrealistic? No, humans can
be successful and happy.
What genre does she belong to? I'm tempted to say science
fiction, since I haven't really run into any magic or supernaturalism in
her books (unless you count telepathy: she treats it like futuristic
science). However, the Pern books are about people who ride
dragons, for crying out loud, so it's hard for me to rule out fantasy
completely!
I'd really like to get a set of Dragonflight, Dragonquest,
and The White Dragon that match. Mine are all different ages.
I'd also like to get a paperback copy of Pegasus in Space.
However, I do have an awesome set of the Harper Hall paperbacks. I
like Elizabeth Malczynski's dragons best!
